Avalanche warning for region Nordenskiöld Land Friday 04.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Unstable conditions due to wind slabs in lee areas. Persistent weak layers may also be triggered where the snow cover is thin.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 3. March 2022

Mountain weather

Thursday 3. March 2022

6-10 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the north during renoon. -20 °C to -16 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 4. March 2022

0-4 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Breeze from east, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -15 °C to -11 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Økende vind vil danne ferske fokksnøflak i lesider, særlig mot V til N, men lokale føringer i vinden kan legge igjen snø i mange himmelretninger.
Vær oppmerksom på vedvarende svake lag med kantkorn i det gamle snødekket.
